Specialty Consultations for Health Professions

TMC function as specialized consultants in the areas of tropical medicine, geographic pathology, exotic infectious diseases, vector-related diseases and zoonoses. Health practitioners in the community are invited to consult on and refer patients from their practices that are contemplating travel or are returning home with symptoms. The diagnosis of less common infectious diseases such as rickettsial infections, vector-borne diseases, parasites and less common diarrheal pathogens often require the use and interpretation of diagnostics and procedures not commonly used in routine practice. TMC serves as a center of regional expertise dedicated to the knowledge and interpretation of rare diagnostics as well as a point of coordination between referrals and regional health departments, specialized laboratories and the CDC who assist in rare diagnostics.
