Evaluation of Immigrants, Refugees, and Foreign Visitors

Immigrants and former refugees may pose unique diagnostic challenges due to the particular pathologies found in their countries of origin or transition. People who are visitors to the US may become ill during their stay here from disease entities contracted abroad. We can be of assistance in providing information regarding diseases and problems that may be specific to certain groups as well as assisting in the procurement of rare medicines that may be required for their treatment.

TM clinics are often in the front line for evaluating asylum seekers who in addition to infectious disease considerations may have been victims of torture and human rights’ abuses. While these interviews are usually conducted by human rights’ organizations and legal authorities, many victims are identified while seeking medical care from physicians. This is especially true for women who may have been victims of sexual assault. TM practices can assist community physicians in documenting reported cases of torture and human rights’ abuses according to established guidelines and making referrals to appropriate authorities and aid agencies.
